Conservative Home

This is a great conservative news and opinion site founded in 2005 by political activist and blogger Tim Montgomerie. The platform is independent of the Conservative Party but supportive of it, and aims to champion the interests of the grassroots membership. Conservative Home provides regularly updated content, links to major stories and publishes comment articles of its own.

Peter Hitchens’ Mail on Sunday blog

Peter Hitchens’ weekly Mail on Sunday column is published on his longstanding blog and is worth reading for that alone but he puts much extra material on it that you won’t find anywhere else. Mr Hitchens needs no introduction: a great conservative polemicist and fearless contrarian, he is always worth a read and regularly forces us to challenge lazy preconceptions and received wisdom.

Unherd

UnHerd (note the spelling) makes an interesting contribution to news and current affairs. It aims to gather together a team of writers who offer a different and often unheard voice in the mainstream media. It boasts within its ranks some top-notch writers like Douglas Murray and Ed West whom we feature in our Recommended Reading section. Mr Murray’s just-published article (Dec11) One small step for free speech on the continuing Marxist “march through the institutions” strikes a gloomy note. Despite the fact that a new set of speech codes had been rejected by the governing body of Cambridge University, within a day, staff there were emailed a warning that the university was “committed to ensuring an inclusive culture”. Furthermore, all staff must undertake diversity training, even though such training has been debunked. “This is the problem with the ‘equalities’ system of belief,” says Mr Murray. “It is an agenda that never sleeps.”

The Conservative Woman

The platform was launched in 2014 with the very promising ambition to wage a “counter-cultural offensive against the forces of Leftism, feminism and modernism.” The Conservative Woman has rapidly become one of Britain’s most important and influential political websites for championing truly conservative values in an intelligent, informative way. It does so with an impressive cast list of writers led by Editor Kathy Gyngell, offering regularly updated content.

The American Conservative

This is a well-regarded website, based on its magazine of the same name. It isn’t an automatic cheerleader for the Republicans, instead aims to champion “ideas over ideology” and “principles over party”. It is strongly against the “sins, follies and deceptions” of neoconservatism and a great critic of the decision to invade Iraq.
